It's true that the quote above can seem awkward in its "logical conclusion" implications, but nonetheless, I really appreciate the "anybody but somebody with a cause" kind of perspective...whether it's religion, politics or what have you, the person "with their fist out" generally wants more of you than to just say their piece, and always give me the willies even when I am sympathetic to their position.

Now it is true, that Jerry said things like "moving the human race ahead a step or two" by living "uncluttered lives" or what have you, but I think it primarily espoused in the "live and let live" with as little grandstanding as possible.

And perhaps most appealing of all was his recognition, I think, that their position as performers, famous ones, gave them no special status, and that he disdained those that would use such position for influence. Sure, he could come off as a selfish hedonist, shirking his duty as a father, and so on, but I have to complement him on this latter perspective ("we are not privileged due to our fame").

Yes he's very likable, and of course far preferable to some cardboard character from U2. I just have to stop myself from idolizing him, while still being able to say God Bless him.

If he'd just become a U.S. citizen, we could have the Boehner/Bono ticket in '12...

They might do better with Bono heading the ticket -- it has a certain ring.

And being Bono, he'd insist on topping the bill anyway... ;-)

When Warren Zevon died, he was surprised to find himself in rock-n-roll heaven. St. Peter was showing him around, introducing him to all the departed rock stars. Visiting a fantastic music studio, he saw Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, John Bonham, Mama Cass, etc., etc.
Suddenly, with a flourish, Bono walked into the studio and joined in the jam.
Zevon gasped to St. Peter: 'I didn't know Bono died!'
'Oh no,' replied Peter 'That's God - he just THINKS he's Bono.'
